Susquehanna String Theory

An eclectic blend of acoustic instruments and vocals

a repertoire that ranges from Celtic to old-time to bluegrass

Judy Ellis, retired as Bucknell University Senior Associate Director of Admissions, began playing the hammered dulcimer in 1996. With vocal, piano and guitar background she was able to teach herself the basics of playing the hammered dulcimer. She soon joined the open monthly Frosty Valley Dulcimer Friends jam which introduced her to many wonderful music friends,

a rich repertoire of music, and the opportunity to play in a setting with many other acoustic instruments.

In 2005 she became certified as a Music Practitioner through the nationally accredited Music for Healing and Transition Program (, a program preparing her to play at bedside in healthcare situations. She continued to develop as a hammered dulcimer player through workshops offered at music festivals and many years of enrolling in the Augusta Heritage Foundation Spring Dulcimer Week (like an adult music camp!). One of Judy’s richest musical experiences (competing with singing in the Berlioz Requiem) is playing in Susquehanna String Theory.
